The memorable crew of the 'Albatross II' – and the actors who play these characters – give the series its powerful and distinctive profile: Captain Holger Ehlers (Rüdiger Joswig), Chief Engineer Wolfgang Unterbaur (Elmar Gehlen), Lieutenant Saskia Berg (Sabine Petzl), Paramedic and Ship's Cook Kai Norge (Andreas Arnstedt), Petty Officer Leonie Stern (Annekathrin Bach), Chief of Operations Hermann Gruber (Michael Kind) and Communications Technician benjamin Asmussen (Max Florian Hoppe) comprise the coastguard team.
Of course the warm hearted old 'salty dog' Kalle Schneidewind (Rainer Basedow) continues to feature in the series. The former ship's cook now runs a bar and provides the crew of 'Albatros II' with helpful advice, practical assistance and of course a beer or two after working hours.
Maya Lieven (Saskia Valencia) returns in her role as the love interest of Holger Ehlers. Being a strong willed and sucessful marine biologist, she repeatedly comes into conflict with the captain who sometimes devotes more attention to his profession than to her.
Thure Sander (Manou Lubowski) once again stands in for Holger Ehlers as captain of the 'Albatross II' when needed.
